New York is on the Atlantic Ocean in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. It covers an area of 54,556.00 square miles and ranks 27th in terms of land area. According to recent estimates, the state has more than 19 million residents.

Printing and publishing, advertising, entertainment, and mass communications are also noteworthy. Tourism is also very important to New York.

In January 2009, the civilian workforce of New York was approximately 9.8 million people, of which 7% were unemployed. Major sectors of New York’s non-farm labor market include Manufacturing (5.8%), Trade, Transportation and Utilities (17.12%), Professional and Business Services (13.08%), Leisure and Hospitality (8.26%), Education (18.97%) and Government (17.32%).
