The state of North Carolina is situated on the Atlantic seaboard in the southeastern part of the US. The state covers a total area of 53,818.51 square miles and ranks 28th in terms of land area. It is bordered by Georgia and South Carolina to the south, Virginia to the north, and Tennessee to the west.
As of 2005, North Carolina had 8.6 million residents of which 12.1% were above the age of 65. Among those who were 25 years of age or above, 78.1% were high school graduates and 22.5% held a Bachelor’s degree.
