Located in the Midwestern region, Indiana occupies a total area of 36,417.73 square miles. Surrounded by the States of Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky, Indiana is the smallest State on the west of Appalachian Mountains. About 12% of the population are above the age of 65. Of those over 25, 82.1% are high school graduates, and 19.4% hold a bachelor’s degree.

Cattle, hogs, and dairy products are also important there. The 41 mile waterfront of Lake Michigan hugely benefits the State, turning it into one of the largest industrial centers in the world. Iron, steel, electrical and transportation equipment, chemicals, food products, nonelectrical machinery, fabricated metals, and oil products are among the important produces.
Indiana also has significant deposits of minerals which makes it an ideal location for the construction industry. With a large number of ethanol and biodiesel plants, Indiana is fast becoming a leader in biofuel production.
As of January 2009, the total civilian workforce in Indiana was 3,251.1 thousand people. Unemployment rate in the State is about 9.2%. The major sectors of the non-farm industries are Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (19%), Professional & Business Services (9%), Manufacturing (16%), Government (15%), and Leisure & Hospitality (9%).
