Located in the Southeastern part of the United States of America, the State of Florida covers a total area of 65,754.59 square miles. It shares a border with the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the states of Alabama and Georgia. As per research conducted in January 2009, there are 18.2 million people residing in Florida. This makes it the 4th highest populated state in the nation. Women constitute 51.0% of the population, and 16.8% of the people are over the age of 65. Of Florida’s population above the age of 25, 79.9% are high school graduates, while 22.3% of them have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

Florida’s civilian workforce totals 9,256.0 thousand people, of which about 8.6% are unemployed. As of January 2009, the non-farm market included the sectors of Trade, Transportation, and Utilities (20%), Professional & Business Services (14%), Education & Health Services (14%), Government (15%), and Leisure & Hospitality (12%).
